Imagine that you were on board the RMS Titanic, on April 15, 1912, with full foresight of its tragic fate. How would you handle the situation? Would you accept your lot, and prepare for the inevitable? Would you try and avert disaster? Would anyone listen to your warnings?
Living in Western society in the present day feels a lot like being on a doomed ship. Current societal trajectories are unsustainable. Authoritarianism threatens to erode centuries of progress in human rights. Socioeconomic systems are rigged, resembling an elite club more than a viable societal framework. Politics is little more than theater, a distraction for the masses. Many are simply riding the tides, oblivious to their fates if nothing is changed.
The goal of this article is not to convince you that the modern world is heading for disaster. That’s for you to come to terms with. This article’s goal is to declare that we have options, ways to course correct.
Consider the challenges of this work. First, people must be convinced that it is worthwhile. This is analogous to telling the titanic passengers that they’re about to have a fatal collision. Many do not heed such warnings, and some even openly mock them. It is this author’s opinion, however, that giving the warnings is still imperative. To not do so would be apathy at best, and cowardice at worst.
Knowing that problems are on the horizon is only useful if one intends to address them, however. That’s why the next challenge is coming up with a plan. Humano Ludens presents one such plan. Its aim is to address societal issues through clearly defined systems and ideas, rather than ideology. You can read and understand them for yourself.
